Katy Hudson aka Katy Perry: Search Me

We all know that Katy Perry was signed with a Christian label with the name Katy Hudson before she “kissed a girl”.

What we didn’t realize was how stinkin talented she is. I really wonder what happened. There have been many great Christian artists that ended up going secular and walking aaway from their faith. I find this sad. I have no clue why she made the move, but I wonder if maybe we as consumers feed this or if it’s just personal walks in life.

Either way this song “search me” is amazing. It starts at 2:20. Enjoy!

She’s amazingly talented. Couple of questions though…

    1. Does “going secular” always equate to “walking away from faith”?

    2. How do we know she has walked away from her faith? I ask this sincerely, since I don’t follow her and haven’t read any interviews or anything. Has she stated she walked away from that?

Let me revise what I said…I don’t think going secular means walking away from your faith.
There have been a bunch who have done just that but there have also been some who went secular and kept thier faith.
    So that is very true…

I don’t think the songs need to be about God or anything they could be about whatever, but if your music is “bad fruit” or going against the faith we have an issue.

Katy is really talented, but much of her show is selling sex. That I would say is bad fruit even if she still believe is Christ our savior

Her faith is between her and God. But I kind of agree with Joel. The music doesn’t have to preach, it doesn’t even have to have a message, but if it does have a message, and the message is in direct conflict with the gospel, then the fruit cannot be good.

From what I can see online, and it’s just a snap shot of course and not the whole story, it looks like the lure of fame and fortune…and the need for growth both personally and creatively, are really the causes of her departure from Christian music.

I read an interview when she first blew up and she said she left the industry AND the faith because she saw that the Christian music industry was just as image driven and everything else JUST LIKE the non-religious music industry. So she figured if she was going to sell out and be something else to get famous, she might as well do it in a way that will get her paid in big way. Enter: Katy Perry

BTW, thinking about you doc. Let’s catch up after this week.

Lori…Joel is doing what the Bible says and he is examining her fruit.

I agree, the Christian music industry can be just as bad as the non-Christian industry, sometimes worse because they try to hide it more, in my opinion anyway.

The song is pretty, but it’s definitely a far cry from what she sings now.
