Batman – The Dark Knight: HOLY CRAP!

The Dark Knight opened this past weekend with almost every show here selling out. My wife and I got a much needed date night and actually caught it. What says romance more than watching a physcho on the big screen.

I have been a huge Comic Book fan since the beginning of time. And even more so a huge Batman fan. Batman Begins as far as I’m concerned was the “only” batman that existed in movies. Then Nolan comes out with the dark knight.

Originally I heard Mark Hammell (skywalker) was going to be the joker. He was the voice of the joker in the cartoon. Then heath ledger came in. At first I was thinking “are you kidding? Huh?” then I started seeing pics of him and I was blown away.

He was absolutly insane, amazing, mind blowing and perfect for this role. He was and forever will be the joker. I sure hope they don’t try to bring him in another film and replace him with another actor because anything else will fall flat. I think the joker should die with the actor.

Christian bale has been a favorite of mine since “swing kids”. The man is brilliant and he is the best batman ever. He gets a little bit of the Detective Comics version in him this time and I loved it. I would have liked to have seen a little more from Batman though.

Gary Oldman (from Immortal Beloved) really shines in this film. That man can act awesome. Everything was perfect in this film except Maggie Gyllenhaal, who replaced katie Holmes. I actually liked homes and I think Maggie Gyllenhaal was not pretty enough. There is no way batman would fall for a normal looking girl. I also just didn’t think she was very believable.

Was it long? YES. Did it feel like it? NO WAY.  I loved every minute of this movie.

6 out of 5 stars from me.

My wife and I went to see Hannibal on our first anniversary. 🙂

I totally agree about Maggie – Katie was better. I hate it when the keep the same character but change the actor/actress!

I thought that Heath Ledger was SO good that I have to wonder what playing that role did to him… because he wasn’t acting. He literally became another CREATURE in that role. The screen seemed bigger when he was on it. But it’s easily the darkest character, when you break him down, that I’ve ever seen on film.

I don’t know that you can “give” yourself the wholeheartedly to a role and not cross some sort of line in the spiritual realm…

    Any thoughts?

Shortly after his death there was talk about what playing this role did to him emotionally and mentally. *shrug*

And I’m totally cracking up at “Maggie wasn’t pretty enough” HAHA!! 😆 And how lame to change the face of a character. pshaw! 😉

i still wish Katie Holmes had stayed on board as Rachel Dawes for the Dark Knight; it was like the time spent getting familiar with her character in Batman Begins was wasted…
