Top Cd’s of 2008

January 5, 2009 — 14 Comments

I made a promise recently to put up my fav. music of 2008 so here we go.

These are in random order except my top pick for the year.

Joel Auge : into the Blue
A brilliant CD with insightful lyrics and a real smooth sound. This was a refreshing sound in 08.

Ian Mcintosh: awakened

Ian comes out of Brian & Jenn Johnsons church yet sounds nothing like them. Actually he sounds like nobody I know of. Melodic, haunting and full of beauty. I love love love this CD.

Deluge: Deluge live
Jonathon Stockstill….I must admit I was never a fan of him till I got this CD. It is raw and full of energy, but it also goes right to the throne of God.

Passion: God of this city
Yes I know there were some repeat songs on this form individual CD’s, but there are also some amazing standout tracks. It’s Passion people!

Kerli
Where have I been and not have heard this girl before. Its not a christian CD. It is however brilliant!

Klaus: Glory
I reviewed this CD on the worship community in 08. It gets on other sites low reviews, but I say those people are nuts. This CD is one of the best worship CD’s I have heard this past year and I can stop listening to it.

Leeland: Opposite Way
Ok..yes this CD is awesome and their best one. There is a song called “thief in the night”…it makes the whole CD worth the price of admission.

Misty Edwards: Relentless
IHOP veteran pulls out another amazing CD. It is a double with a full acoustic set as well. She is a genius with spontaneous worship and heavenly sounds.

Natasha Beddingfield: Pocket full of sunshine
I know what your thinking…Pop music? I love music folks and Natasha has a killer voice…awesome lyrics and production. I wish she was stll writing for hillsong church.

Phil Wickham: Singalong
This is Phil’s free download acoustic CD. It is flat out his best CD of all. You feel like you are at the concert when you listen to it and you find yourself sucked in and worshiping right along side him.

Gateway: Wake up
WHAT AN AWESOME CD! honestly this may be my favorite worship CD of the year. I can’t get enough of it. and Kari Jobe can sing a menu it I would love it.

Worth Dying For
This may be the surprise CD of the year. It’s fresh and original, full of raw energy and all about changing youth culture for Christ.

Jesus Culture: 2 CD’s
Mostly covers and done in such a refreshing way. Standout songs: how he loves, where you go I go, we cry out, consuming fire…etc. These Cd’s are so so good. If that doesnt convince you to buy them KIM WALKER sings on them. Love her!

And finally…..to top the list.

My #1 CD pick of 2008

Charlie Hall: The Bright Sadness
This CD is perfect. Every song is a masterpiece. There is personal worship, corporate worship and jsut awesome songs that point to God and justice and hope. Honestly This CD has overtaken my ipod. It’s on constant repeat. Bravo Charlie Hall!

Novembeard

November 6, 2008 — 7 Comments

I have been told it’s Novembeard. I have not been one to shy away from sporting a beard. I normally grow just the goatee and the picture above merely shows I am lazy. I have told that the rules are simple. Don’t shave your beard or Gotee, or handelbars (all or one of them) for the entire month of November.

Ok I’m in. and so are my buddies Russ, and Jon, JonMorris

HILLSONG UNITED COMES TO HOUSTON IN AUGUST

Aussie Worship Band’s Only Youth Conference in U.S. for 2008

SYDNEY, Australia – May 5, 2008 – Musicians, students, youth leaders and worship leaders will gather in Houston August 22-23, 2008 for the Hillsong United Conference which brings the world-class modern worship band for its only youth conference in the United States this year.

The Hillsong United Conference will be held at Grace Community Church at 14505 Gulf Freeway in Houston and will feature two days of speaker presentations, teaching and concerts.  The conference will focus on the subjects of worship and justice and equipping young people to bring both to their communities.

Registration for the conference can be found at http://www.hillsongunitedconference.com/houston.html. An early registration rate is available now through May 31st at a cost of $69.

Australia’s Hillsong United, which was the Gospel Music Association’s International Impact award-recipient in 2007, is one of the most popular young modern worship bands in the world.  The various conferences they have hosted around the world have drawn thousands of young people and their church leaders looking to immerse themselves in worship and gain a better understanding how to bring a lifestyle of worship to everyday life.  Last year’s U.S. event, held in Orlando, was sold out and attended by registrants from 43 states.

The Hillsong United Conference in Houston will feature guest speakers including Hillsong Church’s senior pastor Brian Houston and internationally renowned speaker (and former Hillsong youth leader) Phil Dooley teaching registrants how young people can transform their churches and communities.  The Hillsong United band will lead worship at the events.

The Hillsong United Conference is sponsored by Integrity Live Events, part of Integrity Music of Mobile, Ala.  The Hillsong team will also visit Canada for a conference in Toronto on Aug. 29-30.

In April, Hillsong United released The I Heart Revolution: With Hearts as One, a new double album that captures live worship from around the world.  The CD release is the first part of a three-part action plan for the band’s worship and social justice initiative, The I Heart Revolution, that also includes a June release of a DVD titled We’re All In This Together.  Both the CD, which captures the “sound” of global worship, and the DVD, which captures the “visual,” are aimed at creating awareness for phase three – – the development of an online community and social justice hub set to launch in July.

The With Hearts As One CD features 30 songs recorded live in various locations including Scotland, Malaysia, France, Paraguay, Sweden and Brazil to name a few.  The album was produced by Hillsong United frontman Joel Houston along with guitarist Jad Gillies and Andrew Crawford.
