Mancation: Day 2

August 12, 2008 — 1 Comment

Day 2 of Mancation with Rich (husband to Lori) and Matt.

We went to bed way too late because Matt and I are addicted to our computers. I am dealing with this of course. Therapy doesn’t seem to be working though.

I woke up in the morning and realized that it was 8am. This is almost two hours later than I normally wake up. Was it my cozy bed? uh I don’t think so…I just slept in. I walk out of my room and see Rich standing there who has been waiting for Matt and I to wake up because he was bored to tears.

Matt woke up and said “Holy crap I have a bad back, but with this bed everything but my back hurts.”

Rich “uh…lets get breakfast.”

So we showered and then headed to our complimentary breakfast. Slab O Eggs…yum

Forcast for our wonderful day of golf. RAIN! We called to the course and they said it’s great right now so we went down and played in pouring rain 8 holes. We were drenched and the balls barely rolled. Matt played 3 of the 8 holes. I think rain scares him. I’m not sure.

At hole #4 the ranger there said to us. ” what are you guys stupid! why are you playing in this kind of rain.”

when we were done it was time to get changed into dry clothes. So we went to the hotel and changed. We went out the door to go get some lunch when something hit us. THE SUN! Thats right. the sun was out and it wan’t raining. What in the! Ok deep breaths. One of the reasons to go on this mancation was to get rid of some of the negativity. Some of us are doing better than others, but the venture is not over yet.

We went to a pizza place called Town Spa. What kind of name is that for a pizza joint? Rich swore by it so we went and it was great. Then onto Newbury Comics and Guitar Center (aka Meca).

Many hours have passed now and we needed to get dinner so we went to the melting pot. I have been wanting to go there for 7 years now and it was awesome. Fondue restaraunt and we not only had a great time of fellowship but awesome food.

two hours later (yes 2 hours) we went to visit rich’s old stomping grounds and got to meet his parents.

Now we are back at the hotel awaiting what kind of things are before us for our final day of mancation. More Golf? More rain? Prayer? Soul seraching? Gocarts? Who knows…You will just have to wait till tomorrow night.

It sounds like my family had a great day too. Dentist visits and bike rides.

Mancation: day 1

August 11, 2008 — 2 Comments

Mancation begins Sunday morning.  I didn’t have to wake up and get myself ready to lead worship at church. I didn’t have to get my gear together or…well I didn’t have to do anything.

I got to have Dunkin Donuts with my family. YUM! and then play with the boys. I had some loose ends to clear up before I left on this Infamous trip. Let me interject real quick here. I want everybody to know how this mancation even came to be.

It was my wife’s idea. She told me to “get out”. Well it wasn’t really that way. She told me to get out and take some time to have a break from life. Let me go on the record and just say how amazing my wife is. I know I’m driving her nuts and she is still thinking about my sanity. I love my wife Kelly more than anything. Interestingly enough there was an amazing thing that happened yesterday. Kelly made a comment on my blog. INSANE! She gets better and better.

Ok back to mancation; so I’m tying up the loose ends. One of the loose ends is my jungle of a lawn. It needed to be mowed something fierce. So I started mowing. I was making great strides and then took a break. Bad mistake. When I came back to it and pulled the rip cord. SNAP! the chord broke in half. Are you freakin kidding me. UGH!

I was going to try another church that morning, but I had to fix lawn equipment. I tried fixing the chord and I gues I am not good at lawn equipt. repair.

Well my wife and kids really wanted to play in the yard and the jungle was hampering that. I pulled out the weed wacker and got started on a tedious venture of trying to cut the lawn with it. It was working. Then I took a break. Sputter sputter. That’s the sound of the weedwacker not starting again. ARG!

After that I gave up and packed. I got ready to go and said goodbye to my wife and kids. My 7 year old Tristan wrote me a really nice note and told me he was gonna miss me. I left with him crying. I didn’t like that. I love that little boy. I hope the 3 of my guys have a great time with mommy.

I jumped in the car with Rich (husband to Lori) and Matt.

Now we are off. Heading to the free Phil Wickham show. The place had a pretty good crowd. Phil as usual was brilliant. Why could I not have pipes like him. He had some interesting chord fingerings. And played everysong with his guitar tuned down a whole step. It was amazing and he played all his best stuff. True love of course being the standout to me.

Ok then off to the hotel. Residence inn. Nice suite with 3 beds. Perfect. We brought our laptops of course. NO WIRELESS! What the heck. Only in the lobby. (I’m sitting in the lobby with Matt – rich went to bed)

We are going to attempt to play golf tomorrow and go the the fondue joint “the melting pot” for dinner. The forecast is for rain. I’m hoping it doesn’t It’s kind of dangerous to have metal gold clubs in a thunder storm, but honestly there is nothing more manly than defying nature.

Here ends day one. Cya guys tomorrow.

And tell my wife how amazing she is and how much you wish your wife was as cool as mine.

MANCATION

Mancation:
Def:
To get away and refocus by yourself or with other men.
To have fun and soak in life without your family so you can remember why you love them so much.

Sunday Night I’m heading out on a 2 day mancation. I am talking off from worship for the first time in almost 3 years to get some focus and peace back. I get to go on this crazy venture with 2 other really great guys from my church. I have no clue yet what we will be doing, but I can’t wait. I am praying my negativity breaks on this trip…praying my sarcasm finally calms down and praying that I come home ready to be a blessing to my wife and an even better father.

EDIT: THIS MANCATION WAS ALL MY WIFES IDEA. SHE ROCKS AND IS THE BEST WIFE ON THE PLANET!
