GodBox (part2): Be like David

GodBox: Part 2
Your Name

The bible says that David was a man after God’s heart. Ever thought about what that really means?
I think it is referring to the second step in the GodBox. The first was Standing firm on the promises God has given us for who we are.
The second is Standing firm on the promises of who He is.
David knew His God was bigger than he was. A lot of times we are very good at pretending how big he is but never really putting our faith in that. We are made in Christs image. Like I said in the part one, we love to make him into our image, but he is far bigger. For ever promise He has given to us about us He is even greater.
The potter shapes and molds us and we really learn how beautiful we are. We can’t know how great he is without looking up at the face of Jesus and seeking his heart. A man after God’s own heart is a man who is looking to be God’s instrument. It’s a person who seeks to be just and merciful in the sight of the Lord. It’s a person who is claiming the greatness of the Lord

Proverbs 18:10 – God‘s name is a place of protection, good people can run there and be safe.

Isn’t that verse awesome. We can truly see through it how great our God is. He is our strong tower. He is our refuge. In Him there is no condemnation.
Claim the name of the Lord. Seek the heart of our God. We are his workmanship
When we see the power of His name and have faith in how great he is we are peeking into the GodBox.
How big is your God?

GodBox: Part 1
My God is bigger than your god

There is a classic song out that we all know that has the lyrics – “God is bigger than the air I breathe…” What a great line. It’s poetic and beautiful. How great would it be if we believed that. The bible is my foundation and I know that everything in it is the breathe of God. The odd thing is I am not to good at standing on the truths as much as I am at professing the truths.
Go through your day and look at what your doing. It is very monotonous at best. We all have our ritualistic lifestyle and find ourselves in a situation where hours flow by in a blur. I think God is calling us to something bigger, something grand, something with purpose.
I was asked the question by my mens group this week “who in movies do you think you are most like and are afraid you are”
My answer:

George Jetson. George was an odd man. He went through the same routine every morning and every evening. In between he had a job where he pushes a button when he comes in…does nothing the rest of the day and pushes it again when he leaves. This is a life with no substance..no purpose. He allows his surroundings and daily “rituals” to influence who he has become.
We need to make sure we don’t become that. We need to make sure that we don’t find our identity in worldly things. but that we find our identity in Christ alone. He gives us our purpose and direction.
I’ve always said I do not want to be influenced. I want to be an influencer.

This is a discussion on taking God out of that neat box we have stuffed him into. Everyone of us, no matter how “holy” we are, are guilty of molding Him into our image.
God wants us to stand on the word that he is God and we aren’t. The first step in the GodBox is opening the lid to the box. That part is claiming who we are in Christ and standing on His word. This is the first step to taking God out of the box and seeing big things from Him

Thanks for praying for stef. Here is an update from his wife…Wow our God is amazing

“Hi, it’s Sandi filling in for Stef– Wow! What a day this has been. Actually, what a journey these past three months have been. We have been awaiting this day for some time now. We waited with both fear and excitement. We had a fear of the unknown because we didn’t know for sure what they would be doing once they opened Stef up, and we had excitement because of the possibilities of this surgery.  We definitely saw what God can do.  I do have to thank our amazing support system also.  We have so many amazing friends and family who shared of their time with us over the last few days.  Some dear girl friends of mine had me up for lunch yesterday and a time of prayer.  Last night, some friends of Stef’s came to our house to pray with Stef.  Today, we had some wonderful people sit with me  at the hospital to help pass those long hours.  A wonderful friend of Stef’s was there, seven of my friends sat with me and kept my mind off of things, my mom and dad, my sister, one of my brothers and his family, my niece and her boyfriend, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law, a dear friend to both of us, and our pastor all were there for part of the process or the duration of the surgery to support us.  Stef finally made it into the OR around 10 am.  He went to recovery at 3pm.  He then made it up to his room at 545pm.  I talked to the surgeon and he said things went better than he expected.  The cancer did not seem to be as extensive as he thought.  We ARE still dealing with Stage 4 cancer, so please continue to hold us up in prayer.  Our journey is far from over.  However, the surgeon feels that he was able to remove about 90% of the cancer.  He only had to remove the omentum (the sheet like drape that hangs down from the transverse colon) and the sigmoid colon (a small portion of the large colon where the largest tumor was).  He was able to “peel” the cancer from the bladder and stomach, so those things did not have to be really messed with.  He did remove some other tumors throughout the abdomen as well.  We are so thankful for this remarkable answer to prayer.  I was able to see Stef around 615pm and he was doing well.  He knew about the outcome of the surgery and was so excited about this good news.  I just want to thank all you who prayed for us and remembered us today as we took this path towards full healing today.  Please remember to continue to pray as this is far from over.  We still covet your prayers.  Stef will need much strength and encouragement over the next days and weeks AND months.  Please continue to check in on him.  We love that.  It reminds us that someone was thinking of us.  I will try to keep everyone updated as to his progress until he can take over.  Thanks again for all the love and support and prayer.  We truly serve a God of miracles.  Good night!”
