Archives For blogging

I was talking to my buddy Conner the other day about “blogging”. We both agreed that blogging has changed. It used to be, at least for us, about community AND about getting things off your chest. Then came Facebook and Twitter. Two sites that hold a dear place in my heart and I will be the first to tell people to jump on board, but they changed things.

Twitter and facebook seemed to have killed blogging for the guys like us. All the community is on those sites now. If you are a “big” blogger then you still have community on your blog, but for guys like us with only a few hundred followers and tiny lurkers (i don’t mean they are midgets) we don’t.

If you are not a lurker and are a blogger what are your thoughts on blogging these days? Has it changed for you?

So now what? Well first off I have always used my blog as a place to rattle off the great things God is doing in my life so I will try to get better at being as frequent as I used to be because I miss writing. Where else to go? I have no flippin clue. Ha ha..

All I can say is this blog has been up for almost 4 years and almost 300k visits and I still love it.

If this is your first time here please:

Ok so the moment we have all been waiting for is here. It is time for the ultimate link love recovery contest.

Why:

Simple. I moved my site from CECWorship recently and noticed that because it was on wordpress.com it came with a share of problems trying to move RSS over. Most of my readers were not using the feedburner feed and I could not transfer them over so I went from 125 readers to 10. Not much community like that. Then on top of all that my technorati rating went down to 0 (yes I am a stat ho and proud of it). So I want to get the community back to where it was quick because I have some great stuff I will be writing about soon.

Rules:

This will be an # entry based contest all plugged into random.org. so that means You get your name in hat once or twice depending on what you do. This is a bloggers contest.

There are 3 tiers if you will.

  • 1 entry if: you change your link on your blogroll, already have changed it, or add my to your blogroll (of course I will add you to mine if it isn’t already.
  • 2 entries if:  you do the above plus subscribe to my new feed
  • Big daddy!: If you do all the above and also do a small (or long) post announcing my sites move and that you like me (ha ha) you automatically get put into a different contest for grand prize only.

So once you have done any of these or already have before contest started post in the comments on this post what tier: 1, 2, big daddy you have accomplished and a link to your site. MAKE SURE YOUR LINK IS ATTACHED TO AN EMAIL SO I CAN CONTACT YOU FOR YOUR ADDRESS.

BLOG ANNIVERSARY

June 23, 2008 — 16 Comments

This month marks 2 years of insane blogging on this site. Consistancy has had it’s ebb and flow, but overall I think I can consider myself one of “real” bloggers.

Thanks to all my readers, friends, and blogging friends. Blogging continues to be a blast and in important part of who I am.

Come by and say Hi.

  • Are you a reader and never say anything? SAY SOMETHING!.
  • are you not linked to me? WHY NOT!
  • Got any Questions for me? MAYBE I SHOULD POST ON THAT
  • Are you linked and reading and commenting? THEN SHOOT ME A “WOW…2 YEARS…YOU HAVE ISSUES”

I am 91% addicted

June 4, 2008 — 7 Comments

I did this quiz a long time ago and I recently saw it on Tam’s site so I thought I’d give it a go again.

How bout you give it a try…post your numbers in the comments.

Do you find yourself distracted during dinner because you want to see your hits for the day?

Do you put off using the bathroom because you are playing with technorati?

Do you click other peoples sitemeter buttons to make yourself feel better?

etc etc etc

Of course there is more, but when you start blogging you think “wow…3 people are reading my blog…woot” and then it becomes as addictive as crack. Thats right you move on to the hard stuff. Google Analytics, technorati, top blog area etc. And then you realize you can not function without looking at stats ALL DAY. and making sure people subscribe to you all the time.

Hi my name is Joel…and I..um…I am a stat ho….

So with that out of the way…it’s that time again.

Am I linking to you? are you linking to me? if not lets fix that. Let me know you read this crazy site. and I’ll add you to the blogroll. Also get yourself a reader and click that GIANT red button on the side and subscribe to my feed. Thats called Link love. ah yeah!

And if you are a stat ho. join my club by using this logo below. The first step is admitting you have a problem.
