I know I said Fridays will be my review day, but since this is my blog…

David Crowder Band – Remedy

I have seen a ton of reviews on this CD now. Some Good..Some not. Mine came a little later then expected because I pre-ordered it. I did however get a nifty remedy totebag and stickers that you might not have. So all in all worth it.

One of the most talked things is..Good CD, but it’s not A collision. Well that is a justified statement, but one for me that needs a little tag at the end of it. None of crowders CD’s are the same. Thats what I love about them. Crowder keeps reinventing himself and breaking new ground. This CD does just that.

I think I am different from your standard Crowder-head in that My favorite CD is sunsets & sushi. So I might be coming at this with a different perspective. A collision was brilliant and one of the best they have done, but I think this CD deserves mucho kudos as well.

Lets go down the list.

.1 glory of it all – We heard it first on passion 07 and everyone of us drooled. A brilliant song with amazing songwriting. This song is the answer to the A collision epic style. This would be the anthem song.

.2 can you feel it – So Picture this. Joel is in a club and the lights are flashing…the bass is pounding. I just finished my diet coke and I am ready to shake my groove thang. Doh! I don’t dance. If I did though this would be my song. I love this one. I love the nintendo 8 bit sound. It brings me right back to sunsets & Sushi, but this is actually singable. They do some great stuff with the loops and effects here.

.3 everything glorious –  Heard it on Passion “Everything Glorious”. This is a great reworking of that song. They brought new life to an already killer tune.

.4 neverending - This might be my favorite track on this CD. More of the 8 bit sounds and great little key melody. The lyrics are brilliant. I would be all over this song for church if it wasn’t so full of the la, la, la in chorus. but for listening it is awesome.

.5 never let go - This is the “come and listen” of the CD. Never let go seems to be a trend in lyrics. I love the song and love the soft feel. This one however could have been better. In the end of the song there is this build up…It gets louder and louder…and then..ugh… let down. It was really hurting for this out of nowhere killer rocking guitar solo with heavy delay ala edge from U2. That made the song probably my least favorite on the CD. It has all the workings for an epic, but falls a little short

.6 o for a thousand tongues – A new hymn rework. Crowder is brilliant at these and he doesn’t let us down here. It has a great celtic guitar/synth riff that carries through the song. The added chorus is great and really adds to the song. I expect to do this one in my services.

.7 rain down - Heard this one on his first CD before they were even the David Crowder Band. I loved it then and I love it more now. What a way to revitalize this song. I cannot wait to teach this rocking worship song to my church.

.8 we won’t be quiet - A cool loud song with really sweet vocal effects. Not much to say about this one other than I like it.

.9 remedy - This song for my lyrically is the best. It is just perfect. talking about we are broken and abused and He is the remedy. This song needs to be listened to everyday.

.10 surely we can change – I like this song as well..great lyrics again. Crowder has a way with words. and keeps it simple, but this one doesnt blow me away.

Conclusion: The CD is not the epic type like A collision. It is like Illuminate and Sunsets mashed together. There is some electronic meets emo in it and I love the feel. The thing I was most excited about with getting this CD was it’s claims to have tons of singable worship. I think it fell short of that claim. However it did not fall short of being a really killer CD. Go buy it if you don’t already have it.

Remedy is Here

Well finally it showed up. My preorder of Remedy (DCB) from the Crowder site.

What goodies did it have different then the signed version from independantbands.com?

A Crowder totebag and 3 stickers. Was it worth it? Some might say no, but truth is I now have a remedy totebag. And while I will never use it because I am not a tote kinda guy, it still rocks.

Stay tuned for my review.

Alright good news of the day. I finally broke the 100,000 mark. It took forever. Lots of hits but I guess I’m gonna need a ton more link love to break 50,000. Thanks everybody!

ok so normally I do the Text-Fessional within the set list post. Those days are over folks. Now I do this because I don’t have a video camera, but I am thinking of going to Audio-Fessionals. That would put me on a different list though.

Alright enough of that…So last week I had a discussion with the pastor about our services and a bunch of visitors commented that the service was too long. Let me preface by saying that almost 90% of the church goers here are roman catholic and are very used to 1 hour services. Ours ran around 1 hour 45 min. Not too long, but longer then Roman catholic service. We do readings and creed, communion, and liturgy…along with that tons of music that is woven into the service from modern to old to liturgical. That is our church identity. We call it 3 streams blended worship. My definition of blended worship is not mixing hymns with matt redman. It is mixing the old with the new. Our service is framed around the Lords table and everything culminates at communion.

The 3 streams are Charismatic (moving in the spirit…rock n roll, tongues, etc…), Sacramental (Communion etc…), and evangelical (Bible based… gotta love the word!)

So with that said we had to shorten the service a little without messing with the integrity of what we are. So I did a poll and tons of people helped me out. we shortened the sermon to 30 min and moved a little aroung and ended the service in 1.5 hours. BRILLIANT! it worked and nobody was the wiser.

Uh…moving on to the music..

Great set this week..opened with I know that my redeemer lives. Great hymn…Mark Heard did a great version of it on the at the foot of the cross CD’s from the choir.

Went into the gloria…dropped the key from D to C..

Then we broke the fast song at the start mold and went into classic rushing Wind…it was a great song to open the praise set…prepare our heart…

“Jesus Your the one Who set my spirit free”

And then right into O Praise him chorus…and the rest of the song…I love this song its a real call to worship and and illustrates us singing with all of creation and the angels above.

Jumped into You amaze me…ok this song is from Michael Neale…I was first introduced to this at the integrity worship conference a few months ago and I can’t stop listening to it. This song just tugs at my spirit. It was amazing.

“You amaze me, You amaze me…and I’m overwhelmed by Your great love and mercy”

that line…wow He is amazing.. and unfathomable.

We did My new song that I co-wrote with my dad More of You. This song has really become a favorite with our church. People come up to me every week because the words just get into there sprirt.

“Take the world, give me You….Take my Heart Lord and make it new”

Communion we did the sanctus and mystery of faith (Liturgical music) ..And then into one of the best cross songs ever Sweetly Broken. Brilliant song and really makes you focus and tune into what Christ did for us. Then into super slow version of bless his name…and when communion ended I sped it up to normal tempo and volume. The 2 songs were perfect….thank you for the cross…thanks you for the blood….and then into…come sing for joy and bless his name.

Then we ended with Never Let Go…nuff said that song is just freakin’ great…and the congregation just loves it.

Ok there it is…see you next week; same bat channel.
