Vicky beeching: love can supersede everything

My friend Vicky Beeching was interviewed for this article yesterday, announcing that she was gay.

I have had the pleasure of working with vicky for a few years now.
She is one of the nicest and smartest (borderline genius…can’t give her a big head) people I know.

This article was heart-wrenching to read and broke my heart for her. I am sorry she had to walk this walk alone and that the “church people’s” labels superseded the truth in Christ over her life…I have seen so much spiritual abuse over the years, “in the name of Jesus”, and it sickens me when the church paints the wrong picture of the gospel.

I am glad to know this woman.

I may not agree with all her opinions on all things, but I don’t have to.

As she said in her article in reference to her parents disagreeing but loving her:

“It’s a picture of what is possible, even when you don’t agree, that love can supersede everything.”

Love has no strings. Grace has no prejudice and I am so glad God pours that out daily for both of us.

I didn’t post about this to start a theology debate on my site, or on facebook for that matter, so if you have the urge to comment like that… Don’t!

Instead go and love like Christ did!

John 13:34-35  A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you,

Go find somebody in the church that has been labeled by something other than Christ….
give them a hug and tell them that Jesus loves them with a NEVER-ENDING LOVE.

Tell them that no matter what hurt or baggage they carry that they are a son/daughter of the King and have a seat at His table of mercy.

Ephesians 3:14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family[a] in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

    Sometimes I wonder if we, as Christians, allow the world to cloud our vision to the point that we don’t understand what God has placed in our hearts.
    I think God has purposed Divinity in each of us and that we all have a call and a ministry that is innate in us. Jesus had an overwhelming compassion for children. Today, if a strange man is calling all the neighborhood kids around and letting them sit on his lap we’d think he was a pedophile.
    Is it possible that God put an overwhelming attraction to the female gender in Vicky’s heart because that’s her area of ministry? Maybe what the devil is trying to use to distract us and take our eyes off of the cross is what God has created to draw us closer to His heart?
    I’m not gay. I don’t know what it’s like to be gay. But I am curious if the world has taken the lens of homosexuality and enlarged it in our minds so much that we can no longer look at people through the God-given lens of a burden to minister without feeling dirty if our ministry is gender specific.
    So Vicky says she’s gay. She’s drawn to women. You go, girl. Love those women–Christ does. Heal, empower and challenge them. Lead them to the cross. Take communion with them. Bless them. Encourage them. She doesn’t have to marry them or sleep with them, Christ never did.
    I realize I could be way off base. I just think it’s an area where the world has placed a huge emphasis on being out and proud and exploring sexual curiosities. And the church is SO terrified at anything that could possibly hint at confusion that we take a strong, demonstrative stance against what we don’t understand. God made us all beautiful creatures. Don’t crush a butterfly because you don’t know the mechanics of how it flies.

    First of all, I have suspected this about her for years. It’s not the kind of “suspecting” that allows me to judge; merely a premonition or feeling. Secondly, I do not accept her life style but it doesn’t mean I don’t accept her. Christ accepted EVERYONE and that is without question, He loved everyone and THAT is also without question.

    I think there is to a misconception, in a very large portion of our population, that have confused acceptance and love.

    For the most part, a liberal point of view would say that Christians should be more accepting of the gay community. And, that is conversation we should probably not shy away from; however it’s probably a contradiction in terms.

    I’ve had friends who were “gay” and love them very much. LOVE never fails, “love supersedes everything.” That is so true, and from a standpoint of the cross of Christ, you cannot deny that.

    Love? Absolutely. Without question. It’s the command and the creed we should all live by.

    Accept? I say yes. Sin doesn’t disqualify us as God’s children. If that were the case we’d all be hell-bound. A brother/sister of Christ who struggles with jealousy is no better or worse a person than I am for looking at another person with contempt, or lusting over another woman. Jesus’ blood and the power of the cross is so much stronger than that. My straightness doesn’t give me an excuse to condemn.

    Acceptance of the life-style? Absolutely not. I don’t agree, but I don’t condemn. I don’t accept it, but I accept the sinner as he/she is and that one was first modeled by Christ as He walked the earth.

    Joel, I’m with you on this: I’m not up for a debate and won’t respond to anyone wanting to pick a fight. 🙂 I’ll just say that I love those who Christ loves (and I’m just as human as the next person, who struggles to love drug dealers, murderers, thieves, and other hateful people…) and that includes pretty much everyone.
